As is common with the majority of office based Primary Care Physicians, we work with a group of highly trained Internists who specialize in caring for inpatients. Their specialty is called Hospital Medicine, and they are referred to as Hospitalists. Should you require hospitalization, these doctors will be in charge of your care. They are to communicate with us and send us your hospital information. Although many patients recall the ‘old days’ of one doctor doing everything, the current hospital environment with high tech testing and complexity requires a doctor who is on site all of the time. These doctors do not have office based practices at all. They work full-time in the hospital. Always have a family member or representative ask if the Hospitalist assigned to you is a preferred provider with your insurance. You have the right to ask for a different physician if not.
